A married couple in their 40s were found dead in their home in Sri Aman, Sarawak, on Wednesday (Jan 14), with police launching a murder investigation into the case.
The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Andy Roy Anak Junran and his 44-year-old wife, Angelin Kibin, who were discovered with serious injuries in their double-storey semi-detached house at Taman Mutiara, Jalan Brayun.
Andy Roy had just been promoted to principal of SK Sbangki in Lubok Antu on 5 January – barely nine days before his death.
His wife Angelin worked as a nurse at Sri Aman Hospital.
The couple, who have two daughters and a son, had been living in the house where they were found dead for several years.
Education Department Pays Tribute
The Sarawak Education Department issued a condolence message on its Facebook page expressing sympathy to the family of the deceased principal.
“Condolences to the bereaved family. May all matters be eased,” the message read, signed by Sarawak Education Director Omar Mahli and all staff of the Sarawak State Education Department.
The tribute post featured a black background with the words “Salam Takziah” (condolences) and details of Andy Roy’s position as principal of SK Sbangki.
Meanwhile, the 68-year-old father of the deceased wife, Kibin Jaya, said he will take responsibility for caring for his three grandchildren and urged the public not to speculate about the incident, leaving investigations entirely to the police.
He revealed that he frequently visited the couple’s home but noticed no behavioral changes before the tragedy, adding “I often came here (to the victims’ residence) and neither of them showed any changes.”
Discovered By Members of The Public
Police received a report from members of the public at around 6.55am on Tuesday about the discovery of the unconscious couple with serious injuries.
A team from the Sri Aman District Police Headquarters, along with medical officers from Sri Aman Hospital, rushed to the scene.
Initial examination confirmed that both victims had died at the location.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, with the motive and cause of death still under investigation.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed that autopsies will be conducted at Sarawak General Hospital and no arrests have been made.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information related to the incident to contact ASP Kalang at 019-331 7785 or the nearest police station.
