Food influencer Khairul Aming, famously known for his Instagram recipes and ready-to-eat products recently announced the opening of his first restaurant, which was met with overwhelming respsonse.
Rembayung is set to open tomorrow (6 January) and table reservations opened at 9pm last night.
As expected, Malaysians flooded the website to snatch up tables for when the eatery opens, and the high traffic ended up crashing the system.
Khairul uploaded a video on his official social media channels to apologise for the inconvenience, saying: “We’ve completed the first batch of reservations for Rembayung. I apologise for the website crashing earlier. Many people were upset. I was speechless and didn’t know what to do”.
“There are 3,000 successful bookings so far, for when Rembayung opens and for the coming days after that. To those who were angry at me and the team, I apologise again. Let us fix the issue and make sure the reservation process is smoother in the future,” Khairul said.

Many were worried that they may not be able to get a booking due to high demand
FOMO-Malaysians were understandably worried that they might not be able to eat at the influencer/entrepreneur’s restaurant in the near future, seeing as how popular it is even before opening.
Some even joked that they will only manage to get a booking in two years, while some told others not to worry as there are still many days in the year for an opportunity to eat at Rembayung.
Many told Khairul that it’s not his fault the website crashed, and asked him to learn from the incident while sharing words of support.

Rembayung serves kampung flavours with recipes by Khairul Aming
Khairul’s first brick-and-mortar restaurant venture promises to deliver familiar kampung-style dishes that can be enjoyed by both Malaysians and tourists visiting the country.
If you’ve been a fan of Khairul’s recipes and traditional Malay food in general, Rembayung might be a place worth checking out. After all, we all know how good his popular Sambal Nyet Berapi is. A whole restaurant led by Khairul himself must be a gastronomic delight.
Based on one of Khairul’s social media posts, his restaurant will be serving kampung flavours such as masak lemak cili api, sambal udang, asam pedas and ayam rendang.
Some local favourites such as nasi lemak and roti canai also appear to be on the menu, as well as traditional kuih like curry puffs and seri muka.
Rembayung is located in Kampung Baru, close to the heart of the city, and will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
