Pahang has been selected as Malaysia’s top destination for nature and eco-tourism, according to the results of a new nationwide consumer survey.
The findings highlight Pahang’s dominant position as the preferred choice for travellers seeking relaxing nature escapes, diverse experiences, and sustainable tourism practices.
The announcement coincided with an international tourist welcoming event held at Resorts World Genting.
Leong Yu Man, the Pahang State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Unity, Tourism, and Culture, officiated the event and welcomed over 250 international tourists. Also present were Spencer Lee, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations.
Expressing her delight at the findings, YB Leong stated, “We are immensely proud and grateful that the public recognises Pahang as the heart of Malaysia’s natural heritage.
These survey results are a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving our unique biodiversity while offering world-class, sustainable tourism experiences.
The allure of our cool highlands, such as Genting, offers an escape that is both rejuvenating and responsible.”
The comprehensive survey revealed that Pahang is the clear leader across four key categories.
When asked which state comes to mind for a relaxing and convenient nature escape, a commanding 34.3% of respondents chose Pahang.
Additionally, the survey indicated that the primary reason visitors are excited to visit the state is to “relax in the cool highlands” (21.8%), pointing to the enduring popularity of destinations like Genting Highlands.
Separately, the state was voted as offering the “best mix of experiences” by 28.1% of participants.
Crucially, the survey also affirmed public confidence in the state’s conservation efforts. A significant 30.5% of respondents identified Pahang as the state most committed to eco-friendly and sustainable tourism, cementing its reputation as a leader in responsible travel.
As a key destination within Pahang’s highland ecosystem, Resorts World Genting plays an active role in advancing eco-tourism through immersive and educational experiences.
Located at the southern tip of the Banjaran Titiwangsa mountain range, Genting Highlands sits within a unique rainforest corridor that supports biodiversity, conservation, and nature-based learning.
Building on this natural advantage, Resorts World Genting continues to introduce new initiatives and attractions that strengthen both eco-tourism and edu-tourism.
Among these is Eufloria, an eco-tourism and edu-tourism attraction anchored by Malaysia’s largest greenhouse complex, offering nature-based learning through horticulture, artistry and conservation-driven storytelling.
Together with Genting Nature Adventures, these initiatives reflect a growing demand for travel that is not only enjoyable but also educational and environmentally responsible.
Spencer Lee, Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Public Relations at Resorts World Genting, said these initiatives are designed to support Pahang’s long-term sustainability vision. “As we look ahead to Visit Malaysia 2026, collaboration between tourism partners, government agencies, and industry players will be key in ensuring Malaysia remains a welcoming, sustainable, and world-class destination.
Leong added, “This inspires us to continue developing and promoting Pahang as a premier, eco-conscious destination for both local and international visitors, and we look forward to meeting our target of 15 million tourists in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026)”.
