PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has called on Malay Muslims to restore Islamic sovereignty to “save the world”, citing their large population, abundant resources, and strategic geographic position.
In his recent “Minda Presiden” post, Abdul Hadi said the Malay world has the largest Muslim population globally, and is blessed with rich human resources from diverse communities and natural resources gifted by Allah.
He added that the region also holds a strategically important position in international relations, making it well-positioned to lead this mission.
Abdul Hadi highlighted Islam’s golden era, which spanned three continents—Asia, Africa, and Europe—creating a civilisation that continues to benefit humanity today. He said Malay Muslims must work to restore Islamic sovereignty.
To achieve this, the Marang MP stressed that Malay Muslims need to unite and set aside their differences, putting aside worldly interests like personal gain, status, and wealth.
He said Islamic brotherhood, especially among people of the same ethnicity, is crucial due to shared faith and family ties that should never be broken.
PAS Open to Cooperation But Rejects Opportunists
Abdul Hadi explained the difference between “tahaluf” (formal alliance) and “ta’awun” (cooperation), noting that he had discussed this more flexible approach with the late Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and Datuk Dr Haron Din before they died.
He took a swipe at opportunists who join PAS like “monkeys jumping from tree to tree looking for more fruit”, insisting the party has never broken any agreement and has only gotten stronger despite losing some members.
He told non-Muslims not to worry about calls for Malay Muslim unity, saying Islam requires keeping promises and treating everyone fairly while rejecting extremism. A
Abdul Hadi also discussed forgiveness in Islam, noting that it’s especially important to forgive fellow Muslims of the same race, given their shared faith and family ties.
He quoted Quran verses saying Islam encourages working together on good things but forbids cooperation in wrongdoing, whether with Muslims or non-Muslims.
Abdul Hadi concluded by saying that Islam must remain at the top of all other religions to save humanity, noting that PAS has worked with various parties over the years, including the Alliance Party, Semangat 46, PKR, DAP, and UMNO.

Public Mock ‘Save The World’ Claim
Commenters on social media were largely sceptical of Abdul Hadi’s claims, with many mocking the “save the world” statement as overly ambitious, given that PAS-led states still face basic problems.
“Save Kelantan first,” wrote one commenter, while another joked: “Even managing a small state like Perlis is difficult, now want to talk about saving the world.”
Several pointed out the irony of Abdul Hadi calling for unity while PAS itself has been involved in political conflicts, with one saying: “Malays themselves are fighting, yet have dreams of saving the world.”
Some accused him of playing up race and religion for political gain, with one writing: “Race and religion are being used to weaken the people while politicians get stronger and richer.”
A few supporters defended Abdul Hadi, with one saying: “Many laugh at Tok Guru today because they don’t know, but I believe in the future many will cry because what he said turns out to be true.”
Others dismissed the statement as “nonsense” and called on the PAS president to retire, noting his frequent absence from Parliament despite drawing a ministerial-level salary.
