As pet ownership rises and more Malaysians proudly step into their roles as pet parents, shopping malls are beginning to open their doors to furry companions with dedicated pet-friendly zones.
Sunway Square mall is the latest to hop on the pet-friendly bandwagon. While the concept is still fairly new to many Malaysians, it’s only natural that there will be a learning curve, complete with small hiccups along the way.
Change can feel daunting, but with a little patience and mutual consideration, pets and people can learn to share spaces comfortably.
If you’re looking to hang out with your pet this week, here’s a list of shopping malls that are pet-friendly in the Klang Valley with their respective house rules:
1. Sunway Square Mall
Sunway Square Mall in Selangor officially opened to the public on 11 December and its pet-friendly zones include a lakeside park and a pet playground.
Pet parents need to follow the house rules such as keeping pets in strollers or carriers at all times, using designated pet lifts, be vigilant about their pet’s hygiene, and constantly supervising their pets. The mall may also ask aggressive or excessively noisy pets to leave.
While the whole mall is pet-friendly, individual retail outlets may set their own pet policy.
There’s a dedicated outdoor Squarrel Pet Playground at the Sunway South Quay Lake outside the mall.
Sunway Square Mall will be sharing pet-related activities on their social media channels soon.
For information and updates, refer to the mall’s official Instagram account here.
2. Sunway Velocity Mall
Sunway Velocity Mall has three dedicated areas for pets: V-Chill Commune at Level 5, Nanjing Street Walkway at Level 1, and Velo Garden at Nanjing Street.
These areas are open on weekends and public holidays with access to specific entrances and lifts. The pet-friendly zones are also marked with paw print stickers on the floor.
Pet parents can purchase pet essentials like snacks and toys from the new Paw Mart Vending Machine at Level B1 (in front of Hot & Roll) as well.
However, the mall doesn’t allow large breed pets (heights above 60cm from shoulder to ground). Similar to other pet-friendly malls, pets must be in bags, carriers, or strollers. Sunway Velocity does allow leashed pets but this is limited to the Nanjing Street Walkway’s pet friendly zone. More house rules here.
3. Sunway 163 Mall
Pets are welcomed in all mall areas but they must be in carriers, strollers, hand-carried, or leashed. Pets are allowed to walk freely on the Ground Floor. However, pet parents should inquire directly with the individual retail outlets regarding their pet policy.
4. Jaya One
Jaya One offers dedicated space and amenities for pets. Some of these include a dedicated pet toilet at Level P1 (behind OCBC Bank), waste disposal stations, and pet-friendly dining areas. For hygiene purposes, only non-airconditioned areas are pet-friendly.
The mall also hosts events and activities for pets at its open-air event space, The Square. Due to the mall’s pet-centric philosophy, they regularly host pet adoptions, educational programmes, pet movie day, pet bazaars, and more.

5. Desa ParkCity
Desa ParkCity is a pet-friendly township. Pet parents get to hangout, shop, and dine with their furkids at Plaza Arkadia, The Waterfront, and Central Park.
Some restaurants and cafes that welcome pets at the Waterfront include The Barn, 103 Coffee, V88, Baker Next Door, and Fluffed.
As always, house rules apply such as cleaning up after pets, leashing pets, and keeping a watchful eye on them.
6. IPC Shopping Centre
IPC Shopping Centre’s pet-friendly zone seems to be only relegated to Level 2. A dedicated lift leads there and it’s where The Pet Safari, a major pet store, is as well.
However, there’s a leeway when there’s a pet-friendly event like the You Ni Market which allows pets at the ground floor Courtyard.
Pet treats can be purchased from a Love.myaw vending machine.
7. Quayside Mall
Pets are not allowed inside Quayside Mall. However, there’s pet-friendly parking at B1 (near pillars C16-C18, D15-D16) for pet parents. This car park zone provides easy stairs access to the park area where pets get to roam while leashed.
8. Setia Eco Park outside Setia City Mall
Pets are not allowed inside the mall but they’re welcomed at Setia Eco Park, known as the world’s first solar-powered pet-friendly park. Situated right outside the mall, the park has waste disposal bins to ensure hygiene and general cleanliness. There’s also a pet store, Pets Naturale on Level 2 (near GSC Cinema) in case pet parents need to quickly pop in to get treats and other supplies.
9. 1 Utama
1 Utama is not fully pet-friendly but have designated areas to allow pets. The dedicated areas include Lax Lax Restobar (with its own pet-friendly lift), Kampung Dining Signature (pet menu and a play area for pets available here), and the large outdoor Central Park Bandar Utama.
10. Megah Rise Mall
