Residents of Desa Palma, Nilai, experienced a brief panic after hearing what sounded like a bomb going off in the neighbourhood yesterday morning (22 December).
Negeri Sembilan police conducted a search of the area and discovered several objects suspected to be materials for improvised explosive devices (IED).
State police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said police received reports from the NG MERS 999 emergency hotline at about 7.08am about an explosive as well as nails that were scattered in the area involved, Sinar Harian reported.
“A team of officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and witnesses reported that the explosion came from a vehicle.
“Further investigation of the surrounding properties revealed three objects suspected to be IEDs in one of the homes,” Alzafny said.
According to him, police also found a vehicle believed to be the source of the explosion about 250 meters from the the scene of the incident.
He explained that an inspection of the vehicle also found several equipment and materials suspected of being used in the incident.
“This case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act, and Section 435 of the Penal Code.
“Efforts to locate the suspect are ongoing and the public is advised not to make any speculation that could interfere with the investigation,” Alzafny said.
Police and firefighters continued the search for explosives
A Desa Palma resident shared a video on Threads showing policemen and members of the fire department conducting a thorough search all the way into the early hours of this morning (23 December).
“It’s 2.40am and they’re still searching for bombs in the Desa Palma area. Pity the policemen and firemen,” the Threads user wrote.

Another resident posted a video on Threads of emergency services defusing explosives at 1.30am this morning.
In the video, several heavy vehicles and a fire truck can be seen parked by the side of the road as police and firefighters did their work.

At time of press, there has been no suspect or motive identified by authorities.
