A case of animal cruelty discovered by activist Shima Aris has been circulating on social media recently, where several dogs, including puppies, were allegedly found living in deplorable conditions.
Through a post on instagram shared on Sunday (14 December), Shima shared photos and videos of an apartment unit in Kayu Ara, Damansara Jaya, that was in extremely poor condition. Several dogs were seen in the video, living in garbage, their own droppings, and other debris with no food or water.
“In a small flat unit, eight dogs — including tiny puppies — were found abandoned in heartbreaking, filthy conditions. No food. No water. No light. Just suffering.
“The most devastating part? Their owner was living comfortably on another floor. while these innocent souls were left to starve and die alone,” Shima claimed.
The dogs that survived were “skin and bones”
According to Shima, two dogs were already dead when she arrived at the unit and their bodies were allegedly thrown from the 11th floor, landing on the roof of a shoplot below. She described the surviving dogs as “skin and bones, trembling, weak, and barely holding on”.
She also suspects that the bigger dogs had no choice but to eat some of the puppies in order to survive as the owner claimed that there were nine puppies, but only two were found alive.
“These poor babies didn’t just suffer — they fought to stay alive. Now they need us more than ever,” Shima said.
The animal rights activist called on the public for help in covering rescue costs and medical help for the surviving dogs.
Meawhile, the comments section was buzzing with condemnation against the person responsible for leaving the dogs in such bad conditions.
“I’ve no words for the owner. So cruel. Just imagine if they were the ones trapped in a small space without light, food or water in that dirty condition for God knows how long,” one Instagram user commented.
“This case is a reminder that animal abuse is not accidental — it is deliberate. No excuse. No justification. No mercy for those who choose cruelty. The law must protect the voiceless, or we have failed as a society,” another user said.
Two dogs abandoned at shopping mall
Meanwhile, in a separate case, two Shih Tzus appear to have been abandoned at Desa ParkCity Waterfront, a community mall in the residential enclave near Kepong.
Threads user Yana Albakri shared photos of the two dogs, claiming that the owner was nowhere to be found.
“I hope the police will investigate and check the CCTV to catch the culprit who makes any place a dumping ground, which will most probably make others copy the act as well,” she said.
According to her post, staff at Desa Parkcity Waterfront have adopted the dogs and are taking care of them in the meantime.
