Move over, Oyen the capybara cat. Apoh, the chonky panther at Zoo Negara, is fast climbing up the popularity throne due to its physique and recently celebrated its 15th birthday on Tuesday.
The black panther’s portly figure has garnered attention from many people, especially the image of the big cat lounging comfortably on a tree branch. In another video, Apoh showed its round belly after it rolled over on its back.
@znmzoonegara Looks like our black panther Apoh grabbed the spotlight at the perfect moment, as today is his 15th birthday! Yes, Apoh is looking a little chonky but don’t worry! Netizens questioned if Apoh could still run fast while some believe the panther gained weight because it wasn’t able to hunt for food.
Meanwhile, a netizen jokingly asked the zoo to check if the zookeeper was eaten instead.

Previously in 2023, Apoh sported a leaner and more muscular look so it’s understandable why some voiced concerns about the weight gain.
Zoo Negara assured the public that Apoh is cared well and its staff are keeping a close watch on the feline.
The zoo also encouraged the public to help contribute to Apoh’s care by joining the animal adoption programme. The programme, available here, helps fund food, medical care, and general upkeep of the zoo animals.
